About Angela Vargas
The Heart Behind The Maternity Angel
Hi, I’m Angela, the founder of The Maternity Angel. I’m a Colombian mother, wife, doula, newborn care specialist, and Evidence Based Birth®️Instructor devoted to supporting families through pregnancy, postpartum, and the tender early days with a new baby.
The Maternity Angel was born from the belief that every person navigating the perinatal journey deserves an angel. Someone to hold their hand, remind them they are safe, make them feel seen and heard, and walk beside them through one of the most vulnerable and transformative seasons of life.
For me, being an angel means offering loving presence, honest education, and fierce advocacy in a world and healthcare system that were not designed with all families in mind.
Why I Do This Work
Birth and postpartum should never feel rushed, disempowering, or confusing. Yet so many families find themselves navigating systems filled with systemic barriers, inequity, and racism, often without the information or support they deserve.
My work exists to help change that experience.
I am here to support families in navigating these systems, understanding their options, and feeling empowered to make informed decisions that align with their values, bodies, and intuition. No one should have to walk this path feeling alone or unheard.
My Journey to Becoming a Doula
I didn’t begin my career in birth work. I followed what many of us are told is the “right” path. I went to law school, became a lawyer, and checked all the boxes society lays out for success. While traveling in my early teens, my perspective on the world began to shift. Experiencing different cultures, communities, and ways of living opened my heart and expanded how I understood my role in the world.
During one of the trips my husband and I took in our first year of marriage, I had a deep moment of clarity. I could not see myself practicing law long term. I saw myself being of service in a way that felt closer to my heart.
I explored coaching, Reiki, and various energy work modalities, and became deeply immersed in learning how to support people emotionally and energetically.
Then, in 2020, I became pregnant with my daughter while living in Colombia. I experienced what felt like an unnecessary and unwanted cesarean birth. Although I was cared for by a highly respected doctor, something inside me felt deeply unsettled. I carried a strong sense of injustice and grief, feeling that things could have gone differently had I known my options.
When my daughter turned one, that realization became clear. I did have more choices than I was ever told.
Since I couldn’t change my own experience, I chose to transform my grief into purpose.
That decision led me to doula training, and ultimately to the work I do today.
My Approach to Care
My care is deeply personalized, evidence based, and rooted in compassion.
I bring together multiple layers of experience and training. My background in law allows me to step confidently into advocacy roles and communicate clearly within complex systems. My doula training taught me how to support families physically, emotionally, and informationally, while also helping me examine my own biases and better understand systemic inequities and racial disparities in maternal care.
Through my training with Evidence Based Birth®️ and Body Ready Method®️, I support each unique body with research backed practices. My Newborn Care Solutions training allows me to confidently support families through the early newborn period. Alongside all of this, my intuition and compassion allow me to truly read the room and tune into what is needed most in each moment.
There is no one size fits all approach here. Every family, every body, and every journey is unique.
